Cake:
- 1 stick butter, softened
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- ¼ cup apple sauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cup flour, spooned and leveled
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 ¾ cup green apples, diced
Filling:
- 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup caramel topping
Topping:
- 6 tablespoons butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
- Prepare a 9 x 9 inch pan.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- For cake: In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar, until light and fluffy.
- Add in egg, apple sauce, and vanilla. Beat until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, add flour, baking powder and soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk until
combined. - Add flour mixture to butter mixture, and mix until combined.
- Gently fold in apples.
- Pour into pan.
- In a mixing bowl, add cream cheese and caramel. Beat until light and fluffy.
- Dollop cream cheese onto cake batter.
- In a mixing bowl, add topping ingredients.
- Using your hands, squeeze butter into dry ingredients. Keep mixing until crumbly.
- Sprinkle topping over cake.
- Bake for 42-45 minutes, or until beginning to brown.
