Description

Twist on the Traditional “Puppy Chow” Recipe


Ingredients

Scale
  • 9 cups rice chex cereal
  • 12 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 c. coconut oil at room temperature
  • gallon or larger zip lock bag
  • 12 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup of almonds whole
  • 1 cup of shaved coconut
  • Almond Joy fun size candy bars

Instructions

  1. Measure the rice chex cereal in to a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 1 minute.
  3. Stir and then add room temperature coconut oil.
  4. Stir and place back into the microwave for about thirty seconds. Don’t cook it too long, avoid scorching. You can always melt it a few more seconds as needed.
  5. Stir well. Using the coconut oil creates a thinner constancy. Add more melted chocolate if too thin.
  6. Pour chocolate mixture little by little as needed into bowl with chex and stir until completely covered. You may not need the entire amount.
  7. Next, place powdered sugar in the zip lock bag and add the chocolate covered chex. Close and seal tight and shake till covered completely.
  8. Remove and place in serving bowl or pan.
  9. The next step is what makes this recipe really Almond Joy flavored. Add your whole almonds and shaved coconut to the puppy chow. I recommend starting with a cup of each . But, you can add as much as you like.
  10. Mix well.
  11. If desired add fun size Almond Joy candy bars on top!
