Almond Joy Puppy Chow Recipe
I went through this phase where I added coconut to everything. I confess I love coconut -and chocolate. One of my all-time favorite coconut creations is my Chocolate Coconut Muffin Recipe. It’s actually a pretty healthy recipe too, when using good ingredients!
For something kind of fun, here’s a puppy chow recipe which was a really big hit at a recent family birthday party. And it’s really easy to make too!
Almond Joy Puppy Chow Recipe
Here’s all you need for ingredients:
- 9 cups rice chex cereal
- 1-2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 c. coconut oil at room temperature
- gallon or larger zip lock bag
- 1-2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup of almonds (whole)
- 1 cup of shaved coconut
- Almond Joy fun size candy bars
Begin by measuring the rice chex cereal into a large bowl and set aside. Then melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for a minute. Take out and stir, and then add room temperature coconut oil. Stir and place back into the microwave for about thirty seconds. Don’t cook it too long in order to avoid scorching. You can always melt it a few more seconds as needed. Stir well. Using the coconut oil creates a thinner consistency, so you can add more melted chocolate if you think it’s too thin.
Pour chocolate mixture little by little as needed into bowl with chex and stir until completely covered. You may not need the entire amount.
Next, place powdered sugar in the zip lock bag and add the chocolate covered chex. Close and seal tight and shake till covered completely. Remove and place in serving bowl or pan.
The next step is what makes this recipe really Almond Joy flavored. Add your whole almonds and shaved coconut to the puppy chow. I recommend starting with a cup of each, but you can add as much as you like. Mix well.
If desired, add fun size Almond Joy candy bars on top!
