Description

These chicken joes are a fun twist to the original “sloppy joes” recipe. They’re tastier, too.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 pounds ground chicken
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 15-oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp hot paprika
  • ½ tsp roasted coriander
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp honey

Instructions

  1. To begin, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add in the ground chicken, and the diced onion and bell pepper.
  2. Cook these until the chicken is no longer pink, and the peppers are just tender.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Place the chicken mixture in a crockpot that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Pour in the can of tomato sauce.
  5. Add a teaspoon of hot paprika along with a half teaspoon each of roasted coriander, garlic powder, salt and pepper, three tablespoons of tomato paste, and a tablespoon each of Worcestershire sauce and apple cider vinegar.
  6. Finally, add in 3 tablespoons of honey. Stir it all together and let it cook on low for 4-5 hours.
  7. When it’s done cooking, place it in a fresh hamburger bun or hoagie roll, along with a slice of cheese (provolone is a favorite in our home) and enjoy!
