Description

Did you know that you can make your own toffee? It’s really not that hard, and this Valentine-inspired saltine toffee recipe adds a fun and colorful twist to traditional toffee.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve of saltine crackers
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 bag white candy melts
  • ½ bag red candy melts
  • ½ bag pink candy melts
  • Valentine-inspired sprinkles (red/pink/white)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Prepare a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and set it aside.
  3. On the prepared cookie sheet, place saltine crackers in straight lines, covering the whole cookie sheet.
  4. In a medium saucepan, add butter and brown sugar. Over medium heat, bring it to a boil, stirring frequently, for 3-4 minutes. Pour the toffee mixture over the prepared saltines. Place in the oven for eight minutes. While the saltines are in the oven, begin to melt the white candy melts according to the directions on the bag.
  5. Once the saltines are out of the oven, cover the toffee covered saltines with the white melted candies. Melt the pink and red candy melts in two separate bowls according to the directions on the bag. Spread the pink and red candy melts over the white candy melts.
  6. Add Valentine’s Day sprinkles. Place in the refrigerator for 2 hours to set. Break apart into pieces.

Notes

If you’re not going with a Valentine’s Day theme, you can use other colors of candy melts. Think green candy melts for Saint Patrick’s Day, or a classy blue and white for a winter theme.
