Summer is the prime time for cookouts and picnics (and July 4th celebrations will be happening in just a few days!)  If you are looking for the perfect side dish to whip up for this summer’s festivities, look no further! This crowd-pleasing side is foolproof and a bit … familiar!  Why familiar? Well here’s a hint: around here we call it the “Copycat Cracker Barrel Cole Slaw.”

Cracker Barrel cole slaw

This classic, delicious copycat Cracker Barrel cole slaw recipe is an instant hit for cookouts or picnics! It pairs perfectly with BBQ, hamburgers, hot dogs, or fried chicken (and just about anything else you can think of).  Plus, it’s so easy and doesn’t cost much to make.

How to Make Copycat Cracker Barrel Cole Slaw

The first thing you need to do is combine your shredded veggies:  carrots, green cabbage, and purple cabbage. Put them all in a big bowl and mix well.

You may be wondering: why two types of cabbage? I’ve found that whenever I can add a little more color or texture to a basic dish, it makes it seem instantly more appetizing.  Also, since cole slaw isn’t known for being one of the world’s most beautiful dishes, it needs a little help!

However, if you only have one green cabbage and all the other ingredients for this dish at home, you can make it without the purple cabbage. (It just won’t be as pretty or crunchy!)

Next, you will add the flavor by putting in your: Miracle Whip, celery seed, salt, pepper, sugar, vinegar, buttermilk, milk, and lemon juice.
