Edible Christmas Village Houses

One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is slowing down enough to make something simple and fun together. When the weather turns cold and everyone is gathered indoors, little kitchen projects like this one feel just right. Edible Christmas village houses are easy to make, sweet to eat, and perfect for involving the whole family.

This is the kind of activity where everyone naturally finds a role. Someone melts the chocolate, someone sprinkles “snow,” and the kids quickly decide whose house is going to be the most impressive. There’s no pressure for perfection here—just creativity, conversation, and a bit of mess along the way.

These little houses double as dessert and decoration. Coconut flakes become snowy rooftops, meringues turn into snowdrifts, and tiny chocolate trees and snowmen bring the village to life. Kids love being in charge of the design details, while adults get to enjoy the quieter moments that make the season feel meaningful.

You can use house-shaped cookies if you have them, or make your own by trimming square or rectangular sugar cookies. Cut off two top corners to form a simple roofline, then add windows and doors with candy or icing. White chocolate works as both glue and “cement,” holding everything together.

Once finished, the houses can be arranged on a serving board to create a full Christmas village, or packaged in clear bags for sweet homemade gifts. Either way, they’re meant to be enjoyed—both in the making and the eating.

Ingredients for your Edible Christmas Village

  • 4 rectangular graham crackers
  • 4 cookie “houses” (see note above)
  • 3 tablespoons coconut flakes
  • 12 meringue drops
  • 4 mini chocolate figures (2 trees and 2 snowmen)
  • 2 large marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate

Instructions for the Edible Christmas Village

Cut each marshmallow in half to create four “stoppers.” Set aside.

Melt the white chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in 20–30 second bursts, stirring between each round until smooth.

Spread melted white chocolate on the roof of each cookie house and sprinkle with coconut flakes to create a snowy effect. While the chocolate is still warm, attach the chocolate trees and snowmen.

Spread white chocolate on the base area where the house will sit. Sprinkle with coconut flakes and place the meringue drops to form snowdrifts. Let the chocolate firm up slightly so the meringues can help support the house.

Set the house in place on the chocolate “cement.” Attach marshmallow halves to the back inside of the house to help support it upright.

Refrigerate for about 40 minutes, until fully set. Arrange on a board or tray and serve.

Enjoy this simple holiday project of making an edible Christmas village—and the memories that come with it! You might also enjoy making these Reindeer Christmas Cinnamon Rolls or Danish Pastries.

          Ingredients

          Scale
          • 4 rectangular whole grain graham crackers
          • 4 cookie houses
          • 3 tbsp coconut flakes
          • 12 meringue drops
          • 4 mini chocolate figures (2 trees and 2 snowmen)
          • 2 large marshmallows
          • 1/4 cup white chocolate

          Instructions

          1. Use the marshmallows from the arrangement as stoppers. Cut each cylinder in half. You will have 4 stoppers.
          2. Place the white chocolate in a bowl. Melt it in a double boiler or microwave (in short bursts of 20-30 seconds, stirring). Apply the melted chocolate to the roof of the cookie house and sprinkle with coconut flakes instead of “snow”. Attach the figures to the left on the white chocolate.
          3. Grease the “yard” with white chocolate and sprinkle with coconut flakes. Set the meringues. Wait until the chocolate hardens so that the meringues can support the house. Place the house on the “cement” – chocolate
          4. Attach marshmallows to the back, which will support the house from the inside. Cool the products in the refrigerator for 40 minutes. Arrange the houses on a board and serve.
