Reindeer Christmas Cinnamon Rolls
These Christmas cinnamon rolls are a perfect project to do with kids—plus, who doesn’t love an edible craft, especially one as cute as these little reindeer?
How to Make These Christmas Cinnamon Rolls
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
First things first, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). You want it ready to go when the dough is all set.
Step 2: Activate the Yeast
Grab a big bowl and add warm milk, water, yeast, and a tablespoon of white sugar. Let this mixture rest for 10-15 minutes until it’s bubbly and frothy. (If you have kids helping, let them watch the magic happen—it’s a little science experiment!)
Step 3: Make the Dough
Now, crack in an egg and start adding flour. Mix it all together until it starts to look like dough. At this stage, it might feel a little sticky, but don’t worry—it’ll come together.
Step 4: Butter Time
Here’s the fun part—knead small cubes of butter into the dough. Don’t rush it; let the butter melt into the mix as you go. If the dough starts sticking to your hands, just dust them with a bit of flour.
Step 5: Let It Rise
Cover your dough with a clean towel and let it rise somewhere warm. It should double or even triple in size, so give it some time to grow—about an hour or so. Pro tip: This is a great time to make yourself a cup of tea or set out all your decorating goodies.
Step 6: Roll It Out
Once the dough has risen, sprinkle some flour on your countertop and roll the dough out flat. Don’t forget to baste the top with softened or melted butter; it’s the secret to those rich, gooey layers.
Step 7: Cinnamon-Sugar Magic
In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle that sweet goodness all over the buttered dough. You can go light or heavy depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have.
Step 8: Roll and Slice
Carefully roll up the dough into a log. Then, slice it into 12 pieces. A sharp knife works fine, but if you want perfectly clean cuts, try dental floss—it’s a baker’s trick that never fails!
Step 9: Arrange and Rise Again
Place your dough slices on a baking tray, leaving a little space between each one. Cover them with a towel and let them rise again. This second rise is what will make your Christmas cinnamon rolls soft and fluffy.
Step 10: Butter Again!
Just before baking, baste the tops with melted butter. Trust me, this step is worth it—it makes them golden and delicious.
Step 11: Bake
Pop the tray into your preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. Keep an eye on them—they should be golden brown and smell absolutely amazing.
Step 12: Cool and Decorate
Let your Christmas cinnamon rolls cool down for a bit. Then, it’s time to get creative! Spread on some lotus spread, stick on edible eyes, M&M’s for the nose, and use pretzels cut in half for antlers to give them a reindeer look.
