Easy Homemade Hot Cocoa
Hot Cocoa Recipe Snapshot
EASE: Easier to make than you might think
PROS: It’s Delicious and Healthy
CONS: Absolutely none
WOULD I MAKE THIS AGAIN? Absolutely.
Hot cocoa is a true comfort of the winter season. But I know what you’re thinking: why would I make hot cocoa from scratch when I can just pop a cup of water in the microwave, then add some hot cocoa mix?
Well, that’s an option you have, for sure, but once you try this recipe, I have a feeling you won’t be going back to hot cocoa from a mix. There’s something about mixing your own cocoa powder and sugar (definitely less sugar than in the ready-made mix) and infusing your drink with a cinnamon stick for an added depth to the flavor.

Whether you make it for your kids in the morning to help them wake up or you prepare a mug for yourself in the evening after a long day, you can’t go wrong with this homemade hot chocolate recipe.

Polar Animal Oreos
Description
Looking for a festive treat for a kid’s winter birthday party or want to surprise your homeschool class with a snack to push away the dreaded January blues? Here is a recipe for polar animal Oreos—cookies that are decorated to make a reindeer, a snowy owl, a penguin, and a polar bear.
Ingredients
- 12 Oreo cookies
- 1/2 cup white chocolate drops, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon dark chocolate chips
- half of a dark chocolate bar
- 6 pretzels
- 3 yellow-coated sunflower seeds
- 6 snowflake sprinkles
- 1 ½ teaspoons coconut shavings
- 3 red candy skittles
- Sugar eyes
- 2 orange candy skittles
- Blue sixlets, sprinkles, mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Let’s start by preparing the reindeer. Melt the dark chocolate on a steamer or in the microwave. Dip the cookies into the chocolate on a fork or drizzle it on top from a spoon. Before the chocolate hardens, place the eyes, snowflakes and red candy for the nose. You can make antlers by removing the round parts of the pretzels.
- For the polar bear, set aside 12 drops of white chocolate. Melt the remaining white chocolate in a steam bath. Pour three Oreos from a spoonful of white chocolate. Place a drop of white chocolate in the center, and place two halves around the edges to make ears. Place two chocolate chips in place of the eyes. Place a blue sixlet on for the nose.
- The funny penguin is a little more complicated than the previous ones. Cut a strip of candy ribbon. Brush the edge of the Oreo cookies with white chocolate and press the rim of the candy ribbon tightly over it. Cut the mini marshmallow in half and “glue” it with white chocolate in place of the earbuds. Sprinkle the top of the Oreo cookie with dark chocolate. Place the eyes and beak (orange skittle), and make a white coconut chip tummy.
- Finally, the most difficult character of our collection – the northern owl. First of all, prepare the licorice. Cut it into bunches for eyebrows and fluff it up. Carefully fill a small section with white chocolate and wait 2 minutes. When the chocolate starts to set, arrange the white chocolate around the edges. Fill the rest of the cookie with dark chocolate. Arrange the eye drops and orange candy halves – the beak. Draw eye pupils from the dark chocolate
Notes
Chill your Polar Animal Oreos on a cookie board for 1-2 hours in the refrigerator. Serve and enjoy with a cup of milk, hot cocoa, or coffee.
