Santa in the Chimney Cupcakes
Twas the night before Christmas and Santa had a bit of trouble getting in the chimney. Too many cookies, maybe? These Santa in the chimney cupcakes are easy to make and so fun to set out for a holiday gathering!
You’ll be sure to get a few laughs when you serve these at your next Christmas get-together. Or if your kids take them to the holiday homeschool coop gift exchange, they’ll be the most colorful dessert on the table.
While this recipe has directions for the cupcakes themselves, if you find yourself in a bit of a hurry, you can also “cheat” and use cake mix for the cupcakes. Vanilla cake mix will work well for Santa in the chimney cupcakes, or you can also use chocolate cake mix.
This recipe should make about two dozen cupcakes. You will probably want to prepare the miniature marshmallows in advance, as you need to color some of them red and black to resemble Santa’s boots and stockings sticking out of the snow.
Ingredients for the Santa in the Chimney Cupcakes:
- ¾ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ cup milk
Filling:
- ½ cup Nutella
Topping:
- Miniature marshmallows
- Food coloring (black and red). You can also use edible ink markers.
- 1 cup whipping cream
Instructions for Santa in the Chimney Cupcakes:
1. Gather all the ingredients.
2. First, mix all the dry ingredients for the cupcake batter.
3. Then beat in the oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and milk.
4. Put a spoonful of the batter into the cupcake liners, add a teaspoon of Nutella, and then cover with the batter.
5. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
6. Whip the cream. Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, decorate them with the whipped cream on top, so that they look like a snowdrift.
7. Use the food coloring to dye some of your miniature marshmallows red and some of them black. Then stick them on a toothpick according to the pattern in the picture below.
8. Stick them into the cream-topped cupcakes and it looks like Santa had a bit of trouble getting into the chimney!
