Pancake Fruit Kababs
When you hear the word kabab, what do you picture? The pancake fruit kababs we’re making today probably aren’t the first thing that comes to mind, but they might become a new family favorite!

Maybe you envision juicy chunks of meat and colorful veggies on a stick, sizzling over a fire. Maybe you think of the smell of spices floating through the air.
Kababs of all kinds are delicious; they’re also full of history from around the world! They got their start way back in ancient times in the Middle East. Long before ovens and stovetops, people needed a way to cook meat easily over an open fire. They discovered that if they cut meat into small pieces and stuck them on sticks (or even swords!), they could roast it quickly.
The Arabic word “kabab” means “to burn” or “to fry.” Nomadic tribes, who moved from place to place, loved this cooking method because it was fast and simple. They didn’t need pots or pans—just fire, a stick, and a bit of meat. It was also easy to share, making it perfect for groups traveling together.
As people traveled and traded with other cultures, the idea of the kabab spread far and wide. And just like language, music, or clothing, each region added its own twist to the kabab. With these pancake fruit kababs, we’re adding a modern American twist.
Pancake fruit kababs make a terrific breakfast for a family day, vacation, weekend, or Mother’s Day. And if you enjoy fresh fruits on top of your pancakes, you’ll love these creative pancake fruit kababs.
Let’s get started!
How to Make Pancake Fruit Kababs
This fun combination adds a refreshing twist to classic pancakes. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- 1 kiwi
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1 1/2 ounces butter
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 to 2 tbsp Nutella
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 egg
- Sprigs of mint, to serve
- Skewers

Instructions for Pancake Fruit Kababs
1. Place the egg, milk, baking powder, and sugar in a bowl. Add the melted butter and flour. Mix all the ingredients until smooth with a whisk. Allow the batter to stand at room temperature for 10 minutes.

2. Place a disposable pastry bag in a bowl and pour the batter into it. You can use a plastic bottle with a thin spout (from ketchup). In the case of a bag, tie the free edge and notch the tip. Lift it up so the dough doesn’t spill out.

3. Preheat the pan. Pour portions of the batter at some distance. Mini pancakes should be about 1 inch in diameter. Fry for 1-2 minutes on each side.

4. Brush the slightly cooled pancakes with Nutella and join in pairs.

5. Assemble the kebabs. Alternate peeled kiwi slices and strawberry slices with pancakes. You can choose any other seasonal fruit instead of kiwi and strawberries, such as fresh peaches, nectarines, or blackberries.

Decorate the fruit kababs with mint, sprinkle with powdered sugar, or drizzle with maple syrup as desired. This breakfast extravaganza offers a delightful combination of flavors: Nutella-filled mini pancakes served on fruit kababs.
